Our mission is to inspire young people to work as a team while gaining confidence, skills and leadership in areas of science, technology, engineering and math.  To ultimately encourage children to be innovators, pursuing education and careers in STEM-related fields.

Northern STEM Robotics was started in 2018 by the CyberHawks FIRST Technical Challenge (FTC) team 14188. The CyberHawks FTC are part of a larger group called FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition In Science and Technology).  FIRST was founded in 1989 to inspire young people’s interest in science, technology, engineering and math careers, while building self-confidence, knowledge and life skills.  FIRST is More Than Robots. FIRST participation is proven to encourage students to pursue education and careers in STEM-related fields, inspire them to become leaders and innovators, and enhance their 21st century work-life skills.  (See FIRST insert for more information on impact as well as www.firstinspires.org)

About FTC:  It’s way more than building robots. FIRST Tech Challenge teams (grades 7-12) are challenged to design, build, program, and operate robots to compete in a head-to-head challenge in an alliance format. Participants call it “the hardest fun you’ll ever have!”

Guided by adult Coaches and Mentors, students develop STEM skills and practice engineering principles (like keeping an engineering notebook), while realizing the value of hard work, innovation, and sharing ideas.  Team members also must raise funds, design and market their team brand, and do community outreach for which they can win awards. Each season includes local, state, regional and national competitions. The positive impact on FIRST Tech Challenge participants is gratifying and well documented. Over 86% have more interest in doing well in school and 87% are more interested in attending college. Participants have access to tens of millions of dollars in college scholarships.

We have now expanded to supporting FLLjr team kits by offering rental WeDo kits for FLLjr teams to help lower the cost to participate.

We are always looking for ways to support STEM in the area. Please contact us if you have any suggestions, opportunities, or just need a helping hand.
